Designing for the small and medium enterprise (SME)

The culture gap between the large corporate sector and the small entrepreneur and small business is enormous. To quote Alan Mitchell, developer of the ByoTS self-help library of materials for small business owner/managers:

"The gulf between the attitudes, culture and management of the small, entrepreneur managed business and its big Company brother or sister has never been bigger. What is worse is that neither side seems to realise how big and dangerous the divide is." http://www.byots.uk-plc.net

Imaginist has experience of working with both the corporate and small business sectors and has carried out extensive research into the SME sector: the way entrepreneurs think, the learning strategies in small companies, the motivation for change etc.

We are advising a number of corporates on their SME market strategies. For example, we have been retained by a major IT organisation to work with the Business Development manager responsible for creating new service revenues from the SME sector in UK.

We can help you:

  • Research and segment the SME sector
  • Develop and prioritise product and service concepts to serve this market
  • Consult potential users and refine these concepts
  • Identify channel partners and initiate strategic relationships
