INPACT

Efficiency through

Integrated Process and Culture Transformation

Take the journey with us...

Although the primary focus for most managers involved in delivering change and transformation is on the project or programme, in practice how well they plan and implement it may not be what dictates how successful the project turns out to be in delivering the desired benefits.
  • A recent Leeds University Business School survey of over 400 European organisations found that:
    – 90% of change programmes faced major difficulties in implementation
    – Only one-third expected to deliver measurable business improvements by the end of the programme
  • A 2005 CIPD report, Reorganising for success: CEOs and HR Managers' perceptions surveyed 800 executives and found that re-structuring and bringing in new systems failed to deliver real improvement in performance in 40% of cases.
  • In a 2006 report by ExecutivesOnline, 43% of companies surveyed thought that less than half of change programmes deliver intended benefits. When interim managers were asked the same question, that figure went up to 61%.
  • The Standish Group maintain that only 34% of all IT projects are successful, whereas PricewaterhouseCoopers believes that that figure is 25%!
  • AMR Research found that even amongst successful projects, 47% of companies reported serious challenges with end-user adoption that often put projects in jeopardy.

We set out to understand why these statistics are still coming out, decades after the principles of good project management had been established. Our research confirmed that the barriers to success often lay in the management culture of the organisation and the complexity of the project in relation to the capability of the organisation, as well as the way the project is scoped and implemented.

The result of our research is INPACT - An Integrated Process and Culture Transformation methodology which addresses the dual core of a change programme: processes and people, and ensures that sufficient attention is being paid to both, throughout the project lifecycle.

We are now using INPACT to assess client organisations' capability and culture in the planning stages of a project.
